Institute of Distance Learning (IDOL) under Gauhati University has invited struggles for the students pursuing the distance education in the premises.
The institute provides various streams to the students which have not been approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The careers of more than 74,000 students are on the verge of breaking down.
Reportedly, the institute has introduced 21 courses without proper approvals.
In a recent audit held by the Comptroller and General Audit (CAG), the authorities of the institute have collected more than Rs 39.06crores for the enrollment of different distance learning certificate courses.
Reportedly, till 2012-13, IDOL was allowed to start only eight courses after it got recognition in 2010. The subjects were MA in English, MA in Assamese, MA in Bodo, MA in Bengali, MA in Economics, MA in History , MA (MSC), (IT) MCG (Modular).
According to CAG, the courses which are not approved by the UGC degrees or certificates will be invalid and will not be considered for employment by the government
