The UP Government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, popularly known for renaming the various cities has proposed to change the name of Agra to Agravan. He has changed the names of places like Allahabad to  Prayagraj, Faizabad as Ayodhya, and the historic Mughal Sarai railway station as Deendayal Upadhyay.

Reportedly, the UP government  has asked the Bhim Rao Ambedkar University in Agra to take a look in the historical aspects of the name according to the beliefs of the government.

Reasonably, he cited that it is believed that Agra was earlier known as Agravan according to some extents of the history. However, historians have been asked to look into the matter and inquire the details about the circumstances and the time when it turned to Agra from Agravan.

Ambedkar University’s History department Head Sugam Anand stated, “ A committee has been formed comprising local research scholars, research students and myself. The committee’s work will delve into the archival and documented records in the history to see if Agra ever had an ancient name.”

Agra Fort is said to stand traditionally in the location of  Badalgarh.
