Post the heinous terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 40 CRPF jawans, social media was flooded with reports of Assam jawans attaining martyrdom in the attack. CRPF jawans from Assam – Pabitra Barman, Mizing Basumatary and Ananta Saikia – were said to have been killed in the terrorist attack on February 14th, 2019.
On February 14th, 2019, in one of the deadliest terror attacks in Kashmir, a CRPF convoy of 70 vehicles was targeted by a Jaish-e-Mohammed suicide bomber who rammed his SUV, carrying over 350 kg of explosives, into their bus, resulting in the death of 40 jawans. India slammed Pakistan for the attack and blamed it for supporting Jaish-e-Mohammed and its founder Masood Azhar. Post the attack, the above-mentioned jawans were not reachable creating a panic like situation in their hometowns. On the other hand, the news of their death spread like wildfire on social networking sites. However, their family members dismissed the death hoax.
It may be mentioned that head-constable of the CRPF-98 Battalion Maneswar Basumatary who was a native of Kolbari village of Tamulpur in Baksa district of Assam. He attained martyrdom when terrorist attacked a CRPF convoy in Jammu and Kashmir on February 14th, 2019.
