Assam boxer secures world rank : Brings fame to the country

With just a few months for Tokyo Olympics 2020, Assam’s boxer Lovlina Borgohain has brought fame to the entire Nation. The 22 years old boxer has recently grabbed World’s 3rd rank in the weight category of 69 kg. She secured the esteemed rank in the International Olympic Committee(IOC)’s Boxing Task Force which was conducted in lieu of the next month’s Olympic qualifiers. The final main event will be conducted by the committee later this year in Tokyo.

The young boxer previously shined in the 2nd India Open International Boxing Tournament by achieving the silver medal. She was also the bronze medal winner at the 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships held in Ulan-Ude, Russia.

Talking to a leading daily she says,

“Obviously I’m happy at the development. Earlier I was ranked 5th and now advanced to the 3rd position. It will be beneficial for me in the qualifiers. I’m working hard on my game especially focusing on my speed and reaction among others.”

On the other hand, in Men’s 49 kg category, Amit panghal has been ranked No. 1 and prominent boxing face of the nation, MC Mary Kom is ranked 5th in the 51 kg category.
