After suffering a great set back in all the five states Bharatiya Janata Party is already having a widespread criticism as the public report card for the party has been extremely poor. Today is another very important test day for BJP as the counting for the first phase of Panchayat election has already began.
KNE observations found that the panchayat election in Assam this time has taken up more of national issues like NRC and Citizenship Amendment Bill, rather than the regional and village level issues which have played a huge role in the change in the political game of panchayat elections this time.
The blame game between the two alliance partner AGP-BJP in the name of politics have also been extendedly criticised by the public. The congress however, has also taken the advantage of the issues like NRC, Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 , commodity price increase of the ruling BJP to fight their Panchayat war.
The districts that went for polls were -Tinsukia, Dibrugrah,Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Majuli,Golaghat, Nagaon, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Morigaon, Kamrup (M) and Kamrup.
There are 2,200 Gaon panchayats in Assam. A total of 1,56,41,456 voters exercised their franchise out of which 8,12,38,35 are male and 7,51,76,21 are female voters. A total of 23,505 polling stations were set up out of which 8243 polling stations have been marked as ‘sensitive’ and 3665 as ‘very sensitive’.
