A leading news Channel of the region News Live, violates ECI norms regarding which APCC sends a written complaint to the Election Commission as cited below:

To,
The Election Commissioner of India
New Delhi

Sir,

Inviting reference to the subject cited above, we would like to inform you that News Live is an Assamese new channel aired from Guwahati and owned by M/s Pride East Entertainment Pvt Ltd. Mrs. Riniki Bhuyan Sarma has a major stake in the said company. She also happens to be the wife of Dr. Himanta Biswa a Sarma, Minister of the State of Assam.

The said news channel is showing promos that an live interview of Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma will be telecasted from 7.55 pm today the 10th of April. Being a elected representative of the BJP party he will surely promote the political interest of his party and castisize the opposition political party. This is an direct assault by both the said news channel and the Minister upon the provisions of the Election Commission of India that clearly prohibits any such acts of publicity and campaign, especially 48 hours before the polls as the 1st phase of polls to 5 constituency is being held tomorrow the 11th April.

Though we are sending this complaint at a time when the live interview might be on air, nevertheless we request you to take cognisance of the matter and immediately depute your election officials to put off the live telecast of the interview and further initiate strong action against both the said channel and Minister for wilfull violation of the procedures and rules laid down by the ECI on such matters.

Yours sincerely

Diganta Chaudhury
General Secretary, Assam PCC
