While the existing Assam State Zoo Cum Botanical Garden in the capital city of Guwahati is already in a pitiable state, where the boundary walls are broken, animals are falling sick everyday, and a lot of them even dying, now Assam is planning to set up a Zoo-cum-wildlife-rehabilitation-centre in Barak Valley too.

A team of experts from New Delhi has already inspected a site at Rajnikhal in Cachar district.

The officials also discussed plans related to placement of cages and according to reports, the zoo will be equipped with facilities like veterinary health centre and food-processing unit. The proposed site for the new zoo will be around 200 hectares in size.
